Understanding your system

Crafted from high-grade marine stainless steel, this cylinder offers inherently clean, durable hot water storage without needing a sacrificial anode.

Anode-free design

Stainless steel doesn't require a sacrificial anode rod, which means lower long-term maintenance needs and zero risk of the chemical "rotten egg" odors that can sometimes affect enamel tanks in specific water profiles.

Lightweight and efficient

Highly efficient heat retention properties keep standby energy losses to an absolute minimum.

Routine servicing and system care

To prolong the lifespan of your cylinder and keep it running smoothly, follow this simple maintenance schedule.

Every 6 months - Homeowner Check

Check the vent pipe

Many low-pressure systems use an open vent pipe that goes up through your roof line. Take a quick look outside to ensure no water is spurting out onto your roofing material.

Test relief valves

If a cold-water expansion valve or pressure relief valve is fitted, test the ease-lever briefly to ensure it functions and seats correctly.

After 12 months - Professional Service

After the first 12 months, this initial service is vital as it determines the level of ongoing maintenance needed specific to your location and environment. To keep your system running optimally for its full lifespan, book this annual check-up with Hot Water Shop. Our technician will check element integrity, test electrical connections, clean inline filters, and ensure all pressure reduction valves are working flawlessly.

Quick Fixes

Before calling for service, double-check these simple fixes:

No hot water

Verify the hot water switch on your household breaker board is flipped to the "ON" position.

Air spluttering

If your hot water taps splutter air when opened, it usually means the local town water main has recently been turned off for maintenance, or air has become trapped in the open roof vent line. This should right itself after time.

Tim’s Efficiency Tips

The 60°C sweet spot

By law in NZ, stored hot water must be kept at a minimum of 60°C to prevent legionella bacteria. Your cylinder's internal thermostat is calibrated to balance maximum health safety with efficient power usa

Target shower flow rates

Mains pressure systems can push 12–15 litres per minute through an unrestricted showerhead. Fitting a 3-star WELS showerhead (~7.5 to 9 L/min) cuts hot water draw by roughly a third, significantly reducing the kWh required for daily recovery.
