Routine servicing and system care

Every 6 months - Homeowner Check

Clear the vents

The AmbiPower 280e moves a massive amount of air. Check the top air vents for leaves, dust, or debris.

Give it breathing room

Ensure garden plants, fences, or outdoor gear are kept at least 1 metre away from the air intake and exhaust vents.

Check the drain line

Ensure the condensate drain line is flowing freely and isn't blocked by garden mulch or dirt.

After 12 months - Professional Service

After the first 12 months, this initial service is vital as it determines the level of ongoing maintenance needed specific to your location and environment. To keep your system running optimally for its full lifespan, book this first annual check-up with Hot Water Shop. Our technician will check the electrical draws, flush the temperature and pressure relief (TPR) valves, and inspect the sacrificial anode that protects your cylinder from internal corrosion.

Quick Fixes

Before calling for service, double-check these simple fixes:

No power / blank screen

Check your house switchboard and the outdoor isolator switch located near the cylinder.

Not Heating Enough

Ensure the unit is set to "Eco" or "Hybrid" mode and the target temperature is set correctly. Check that the air intake and exhaust are completely clear.

The Eco Mode Note

In freezing temperatures, the system may automatically use the backup element to protect itself and keep your water hot. This is completely normal!

Tim’s Efficiency Tips

The 60°C sweet spot

By law in NZ, stored hot water must be kept at a minimum of 60°C to prevent legionella bacteria. Keeping it right at 60°C balances safety with maximum heat pump efficiency.

Solar and off-peak optimisation

Got solar panels or a cheap daytime power tariff? Use the app timer to shift the heating cycle to midday. It’s the warmest time of the day, meaning the heat pump runs at peak efficiency using essentially "free" power!
